How about this:

start up the Lone Star Athletic Conference, made up of:

Texas ( No. 7 on ESPN’s all time list)
Texas A&M ( No. 20)
Texas Tech ( No. 42)
TCU (No. 31)
Houston (No. 47)
Baylor (No. 62)
SMU (No. 61)
Rice (No. 63)
Texas State (Not ranked)
Stephen F. Austin State (Not ranked)
Split the AUF between the public schools, start up a TV network comparable to the Big 10’s, and reap savings on travel as well. I’d say a rising tide lifts all ships, and within a few seasons some of the weaker schools would be fielding decent football teams.
Obviously I’m just kidding, but it was something fun to think about. 🙂
