First decent squatting session since the friendly meet I did at the beginning of the month. As much as the high rep front squats suck, I think they’re probably really good for me. I think I’ll work up to sets of 15 or so and then increase weight but 20 or 30 lbs. I was going to do some sled dragging to finish everything off, but after the last set of front squats I was pretty much finished already.

The gym I’ve been training at had a friendly squat only meet yesterday. I went 3/3 and my last attempt was definitely a max effort. Felt good. I’m considering now if I want to switch back to low bar squatting and see if I can get a 500 lb squat sometime in the next few months. That’d be pretty awesome. Or maybe I’ll try to keep building my high bar squat and get a 500 lb high bar squat in about a year.

Didn’t do a lot, but what I did do felt good. I hit my opener for Saturday for a triple, and then decided to go up to around what I’m thinking for my second attempt and it moved well also. Good stuff.

First time over 400 lbs since I had to switch to high bar ATG. Feels good man. Hit the SSB again, but this time I also threw in a bunch of high volume shoulder/upper back stuff so hopefully I won’t have shoulder issues again like last time.

A pretty good day lifting wise. My hips were tight as usual today, but they opened up a lot as I warmed up. 395 felt fast and pretty solid, that should be on the low end of potential openers at the end of March. I’d never used a Safety Squat Bar before, but I really liked it. It really does try to fold you over and you have to stay super tight throughout the squat or it’ll squish you. Good stuff.

Today was pretty solid. Hip pain was minimal, so I was able to do a bit of squatting, though I’m still a long way off from where I wanted to be around now. Benching felt good though. The highlight though was log pressing for the first time since the strongman show I did. The sets at 200 lbs were off jerk blocks, but I hit 211 lbs for a double off the floor. Since that was the weight that I missed twice at the show it made me feel pretty good.

Squatting continues to be a challenge, as today the hip pain returned. I wound up just working up in singles. Beyond that, I did some moving events for the first time in over a year. Felt good, though my grip leaves a lot to be desired and my speed was nothing special either.
